Or maybe take a little trip to a park to find the supplies. I found the acorns and leaves at the park the other day with my twins and made this toddler sensory bin with acorns, leaves, and pinecones.
My 2-year-olds love acorns! Every time we go to the park this time of year they come home with pocketfuls of acorns. Of course, if you don’t have acorns, any other nut with a shell will work (almonds, hazelnuts, etc.).
Use what you have access to. Your toddlers will have just as much fun with this sensory bin!
My boys scooped the acorns and pinecones with their ladles. They poured them into their cups, bowls, and bottles.
Then they picked up acorns with their tongs and carefully placed them in the bowls and cups. This took a lot of focus and concentration!
Maybe they just want to use their hands. Or maybe they want to scoop with the cup.
I try to stand back and not intervene when my boys do activities like these – and just watch. Unless they try putting them in their mouth – then I definitely intervene!
My 2-year-old twins explored this sensory bin for around 15-20 minutes.
I left it out for a while and they would come back to it and fill up their cups and bowls with the acorns – and dump them out.
My boys were really interested in placing the acorns in the little water bottles and then filling the cups to the top.
They were measuring, focusing, and concentrating on this activity. All which are good skills to gain!

I hope your toddler enjoys this fun fall sensory bin, as mine did!
Make sure to closely supervise your child with this activity, as acorns could pose a choking hazard.
