Toddler Fall Squash Sensory Play

Sharing is caring!

Ready for an easy and simple fall activity?  Toddler Fall Squash Sensory Play is so quick to set up and is perfect for your leftover squash seeds and guts.

This activity is so much fun!  Toddler Fall Soup Sensory Play allows your toddler to dig in with their hands and squish the squash seeds, break them apart from the guts, scoop and pour, and have lots of pretend play.

It really is a perfect fall activity since squash is in season, and it will keep your toddler engaged and learning.

I was able to fully cook dinner while they played with this squash sensory bin.  They were making “squash soup” as I was cooking the squash for dinner!

My 2-year-olds twins scooped up the seeds, poured them in their pans, and stirred it around.

There is no wrong way to play with this toddler sensory play activity.  Let your child use their imagination!

How To Set Up The Toddler Fall Squash Sensory Play:

  • Scoop out the insides of the squash (seeds and guts) and put in a small tub.  I used one acorn squash (the rest I cooked for dinner).
  • Fill up water bottles with water and add in orange food coloring.  I used three 16 oz water bottles.  Let your toddler pour the water in the tub when they’re playing.
  • Add in kitchen utensils.  Just use what you have.  Whisks, ladles, pots, pans, spoons, etc.  My twins also used their play pots and pans (affiliate link).  They are nice because I can just throw them in the dishwasher when they’re done.
  • Put everything in a large shallow storage tub.  I used an under-bed storage container because they are so large.
  • Put towels nearby if your toddler is splashing the water onto the floor.

My toddlers poured the water into the tub and into their bowls.

They loved stirring the orange water with the seeds and scooping and pouring the water.

Preschool Fall Sensory Bin

This is such a fun pretend play activity to do in the fall.

My 2 year old toddlers loved the idea they were using “real” food for this.

You can also use pumpkin seeds and guts for this or any other type of squash.

Fall Sensory Bin for Toddlers

The most important thing about this fall sensory bin activity is to let your child have fun!

Let them explore the seeds in their own way.  Let them discover how the ladle works and how the strainer works.

They will be learning so much from scooping, pouring, and squishing the seeds.  Not to mention, practicing an important life skill!

I hope your child enjoys this fall sensory bin as much as mine did!

Make sure to supervise your child during this activity and make sure they don’t eat any of the seeds.

This activity is quick to set up and quick to clean-up too!

My twins kept everything in the tub.  They were so engaged with this activity that they didn’t try dumping any on the floor!  And I only added a little bit of water, so they weren’t really able to splash it around too much.

You could even save the seeds for counting or other fall activities.
