Sippy Cups For Toddlers

Sharing is caring!

From glass sippy cups to stainless steel sippy cups, you may be wondering what are the best sippy cups for toddlers or babies?

With so many sippy cups for toddlers to choose from it can be difficult to decide which one is best for your toddler.

Sippy cups can be an encouraging way to teach your baby or toddler to drink from a cup. Sippy cups can also help with oral development.

I started giving my twin babies sippy cups when they were around 6 months old with a tiny amount of water (only around a tablespoon or two) about once every other day.  This was to get them used to drinking from a cup, which is much different than a bottle or breastfeeding.   Babies under 6 months should not drink water.

My twin babies started out with a basic sippy cup suitable for babies 4 months and up.  They used a sippy cup like this one that has handles and a silicone spout.  It’s easy for a baby to hold since it’s smaller and has two handles on it.

I also tried many other sippy cups along the way.

Stainless steel sippy cups and glass sippy cups are my favorite.  They truly last a long time and are eco-friendly.

Glass sippy cups and stainless steel sippy cups are more expensive than plastic sippy cups, however, they are durable and last.  They are good if you plan on having more children, as you can save them and pass them down – so they are well worth the investment.

Types of Sippy Cups

Sippy cups can have spouts, straws, or some are like a non-spill cup.  I like to mix it up with my toddlers for what kind of sippy cup they use.  I usually have them drink from both the spouts and the straws to help with oral development.

With a saturated sippy cup market, I’ve listed some sippy cups with top reviews, as well as some of my favorites that my kids have used when they were babies and toddlers.

Smoothie Cups For Toddlers

I am a big smoothie fanatic for my toddlers and kids. Having the right smoothie cup for my toddlers means I am more likely to make them more smoothies.

Smoothies are such a great way to get in nutrient-dense food for toddlers and picky eaters.

Making smoothies daily is easy if you use cups that are easy to clean. I make smoothies almost daily for my toddlers and kids so having the right cup makes such a difference.

My favorite smoothie cups for toddler smoothies are the take n toss straw cups. I use paper or plastic straws in the straw hole since they fit perfectly in there.

My favorite blender that I use daily to make my toddlers’ smoothies is the Nutribullet blender – it’s easy to clean and blends food easily.

Why Use A Sippy Cup For Milk or Water For Your Toddler?

The ultimate goal with sippy cups is to transition into drinking from a cup.

Sippy cups are great for car rides, when your toddler is sitting in the living room and don’t want a drink spilled, or your baby is just learning to drink from a cup.  Sippy cups definitely have their place and purpose!

However, I preferred to always give a sippy cup without a lid or just regular cups to my toddlers, so they could practice drinking from a cup.  When babies are 9 months old, it is usually recommended to introduce an open cup.

It’s easy to give toddlers an open cup when they are seated with a very small amount of milk or water.  My toddlers went through a dumping stage where they would just pour the milk or water out, that’s when I put a lid on it.  Otherwise, I tried to stick to an open cup, which they mastered fairly quickly with enough practice.
