Muffin Tin Dutch Babies

Sharing is caring!

Muffin Tin Dutch Babies are an easy toddler snack that gets your kids involved in cooking!

These muffin tin Dutch Babies are great for snacks, breakfasts or even in a lunch box.

Traditional Dutch Babies are usually baked in a large pan in the oven and seasoned with vanilla and cinnamon.  I wanted bite-sized Dutch Babies my toddlers could easily eat so I made these toddler-friendly healthier versions.

You can make these quickly, and even get your toddler involved in if they want to help!  They took me 30 minutes total with my toddlers helping!

Plus they’re more likely to eat them if they help make them (that’s what I’ve noticed)!  My twins loved the spinach Dutch babies because they helped put the spinach in the recipe – that was the first one they wanted to try!

These also have no refined sugar or sweeteners in them.  I omitted sugar for this recipe, although traditional Dutch Babies usually call for at least a tablespoon of sugar.

Toddler Cooking

Let Your Toddler Mix the Batter.

I poured the 3 ingredients in the bowl and they both took turns mixing.  I think mixing was their favorite part of making these.

We practiced patience and taking turns while waiting to stir.  I decided to make these muffin tin Dutch Babies with my twins after our English Muffin Pizzas were a hit!

This is a recipe I got from my sister and my twins love eating them!

Healthy Recipes for Kids

Ingredients for the Mini Muffin Dutch Babies batter:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (could use whole wheat)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk

How To Make The Mini Muffin Dutch Babies:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Mix batter well in a bowl so there are no clumps (this is a great step for your toddler to help stir with a whisk)
  • Pour into a mini greased or lined muffin tin (affiliate link).  I just greased with butter and they came out easily in a non-stick pan.
  • Add in whatever toppings you prefer.  I used frozen wild blueberries, sliced strawberries, and shredded cheese and spinach (another great step for your toddler to help).
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes (they will puff up and become slightly golden brown).

Other topping ideas (you will probably want to add some toppings otherwise they are very bland tasting – especially since there is no sugar or salt in these): mini chocolate chips, sliced banana, cooked broccoli and cheddar, raspberries, blackberries or other berries, ham and cheese.

I served mine with a side of raw honey for dipping (make sure your child is over 1 year old if giving any honey).  These would also be good with jam or pure maple syrup.

If you want to freeze some or have some for the week for breakfasts, snacks, or lunches, then I would probably make a double batch.

Easy Toddler Recipes

My twins ate a lot of the toppings as they made these.  Which was fine because they were eating plain spinach and berries.

I guided them a little with how many toppings to put in but they figured it out pretty quick!

Just give them a small bowl with a few toppings at first and add more if they run out.

Mini Muffin Tin Dutch Babies

These mini muffin tin Dutch Babies are a quick and easy recipe to whip up.

They are great to eat for a quick and easy breakfast if you make them ahead.  Just store leftovers in the refrigerator.

Or add them to lunch boxes for a healthy treat!

Toddler Friendly Meals

We did not have any leftovers!

My twins and I ate them all.

This is a great recipe for little kids to help make.  It’s fun, easy, and low prep.  Plus, there’s no refined sugar in these.

It really is a great learning experience for toddlers and little kids.  My twins are 2 1/2 and did a great job helping make these and really enjoyed it.

These dutch babies could be savory or sweet since the batter really is pretty bland.

I hope your toddler enjoys these yummy and easy toddler treats!

I made these for all 4 of our kids, ages 2 – 10, and everyone enjoyed the Dutch babies.

I really like that they can be customized to individual taste. We used chocolate chips for some to make them sweet, but we also used cheese and spinach to make more savory flavors.

Having the kids choose their own add-ins was a huge bonus, and they were thrilled for the dutch babies to come out of the oven.

So glad they all enjoyed them and a great idea adding the chocolate chips! All my kids love them, too!
