I still remember going to pumpkin patches, squirting whip cream on my pumpkin pie, and eating roasted pumpkin seeds when I was a kid – I remember the smell of roasted pumpkin seeds baking in the oven.
My mom would bake the pumpkin seeds in the evening after we carved pumpkins and they were a special treat my brothers, sister, and I would eat that night. That smell still lingers when I roast pumpkin seeds for my family now.
I plan to bring these fall ideas and traditions into my family now – so my kids can have wonderful memories that remind them of fall and family.

I prefer to go to pumpkin patches in rainy and cooler weather because it’s less crowded – or go earlier in the day (or weekday) and it’s usually less crowded.
I felt a little safer taking my toddlers to a pumpkin patch during Covid since it was outside and we went first thing when it opened – we literally had the pumpkin patch to ourselves!
After carving your pumpkin, save the seeds to roast and eat an easy fall bucket list idea!
To roast pumpkin seeds rinse the seeds well, dry, and spread on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with salt and a little bit of oil (I use avocado oil or melted butter) and bake in 350 degree F oven for 15-20 minutes or lightly browned. Pumpkin seeds are full of nutrients!
There are so many pumpkin recipes out there on Pinterest and they look so good!
I make these healthy pumpkin chocolate chip muffins for my family and this pumpkin pie smoothie for my kids!
The kids love this, too! My kids like to decorate their rooms as well at the start of fall.
The dollar store is a great place to get decorations, especially for kids. Target dollar spot also has some great fall and Halloween decor!
Fun for kids and adults! Look up what local farms you have in your area.
Some farms aren’t doing hayrides this autumn. My toddlers were able to do this cow ride instead of a hayride at the farm – and they had just as much fun!
Or other fall drinks – hot chocolate or pumpkin drinks are good, too!
So fun for kids and adults! My twins also like to decorate their pumpkins with stickers – a good alternative for toddlers.

Pop some popcorn and cozy up with a movie. Some of our favorite fall movies are The Great Pumpkin (Charlie Brown), Scoob, Casper The Friendly Ghost, and Hotel Transylvania. The toddlers love Coco Melon Halloween Songs.
This is a tradition we started last year and I plan to continue it every year!
I use chalk markers and have our whole family write down on a pumpkin we picked out about things they are thankful for. It makes for a great homemade decor piece or center piece for Thanksgiving.
This is similar to an egg hunt except don’t hide the candy in eggs. This is a great alternative if you won’t be trick-or-treating this year.
If you go outside you can bring flashlights and hunt in the dark!
