Are you looking for a recipe your 2 year old or preschooler can make? This English muffin pizza toddler recipe is so easy to make with toddlers and they love it!
My 2 year old twins loved making their pizzas. And it was something they did on their own!
Your toddler will actually be learning a ton, too, with this practical and life skills toddler cooking activity!
This English muffin pizza toddler recipe is so simple, and there’s no prep for your toddlers to make them!
Since this was the first time my toddlers made these pizzas, I first showed them how to scoop up the sauce and put it on their English muffin and spread it. They caught on very quickly and did the rest of them on their own.
This activity really focuses on teaching steps, sequencing, and learning about measuring – and of course, having fun!
It wasn’t about the end result, but the process of making the pizzas.
I want cooking to be enjoyable for my twins so I really let them do it however they wanted and discover on their own. I just set them up (so they could have success) and let them do the rest.
The only thing I noticed is if they put on a ton of sauce on, the pizza might be a little on the soggy (softer) side. Next time I will just put less sauce in the bowl.
I said FIRST we are going to put on the sauce, NEXT we put on the cheese, and LAST we put on the olives. This is great for teaching about sequencing and important when it comes to telling parts of a story (a skill they will need later on once they get to kindergarten).
You may guide your toddler with some of these steps, or you can stand back and have them ask for help if they need it. Let this be a learning experience for them. Let them notice and discover if they put on too many olives – or maybe it’s how many they want on their pizza, and that’s okay!
They really focused on putting the sauce and toppings on the pizzas (great for fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination).
You can also introduce and talk about vocabulary words and measurement words such as scoop, spread, pour, a little, a lot, too much, too little, a spoonful, etc. We kept it pretty basic.
I only started with a small amount of sauce and cheese and added more in the bowls as they ran out.
They told their older brother how to make a pizza when he got home from school. “First you put on sauce, then you put the cheese on, and then you put the olives on!”
This really is a fun and easy activity to do with toddlers. And they can eat it for lunch or dinner, too (a meal they made themselves)!
My twins are 2 1/2 and had no problem making these English muffin pizzas. We will definitely be making more recipes together in the near future. They loved making these and learned so many skills – and I had so much fun watching them make these and eating them, too.
