Easy Slime Add Ins for Kids

Sharing is caring!

Here are some easy slime add ins for kids!  These add-ins to slime make it even more fun – if that’s even possible!

Every time I have tried to make slime it just never seems to turn out.  And dollar store slime is pretty cheap when you compare it to buying actual slime ingredients (glue alone is at least $1)!

Slime never lasts at my house so I always assume it’s a one-time use thing.  It gets thrown on the floor and lots of dog hair and food get in it.

That’s why lately I just grab a few containers at the dollar store when I’m there.  It’s well worth the hours of entertainment it gives my kids!

Easy Slime Recipe

My toddlers put it in their cups, stirred it around, and made pretend smoothies with it.

The foam beads and regular beads really added to the texture and helped weigh it down a bit.

They played with this slime longer than any other slime!

Benefits of Slime

Since my twins are 2 1/2 and finally not putting everything in their mouth it was a good time to introduce slime with the foam beads.

I would wait until your child is not eating everything to try slime since it is not taste-safe and this has foam beads in it.

And I waited until I could have the time to sit and play with them to make sure they didn’t eat it.

Slime

My toddlers played with this slime for 3 hours!  It was a big hit putting in all these fun add-ins and they really enjoyed the different textures.

Just don’t play near the carpet.  It will stain if it gets on carpet (at least the red slime stained my carpet).

Simple Slime Recipe for Kids

What You Need For This Easy Slime Add ins for kids:

  • Store-bought slime or your favorite slime recipe.  We used red and green for the holidays.
  • Foam beads – From the dollar store
  • Green Beads – From the dollar store

Other add-ins could also be glitter and sequins.  All of these items you can get at the dollar store, a craft store, or Amazon (affiliate link).

How To Make The Slime:

Add the foam beads (I used one bag of foam beads for 2 containers of slime and it was more than enough) and/or beads to the store-bought slime or your slime recipe.  Have your child help mix them in.

The foam beads do get pretty messy with this.  It takes a bit of squishing the slime to get the foam beads to mix in really well.

Foam beads do vacuum up very easily though.

This mess was well worth it though for the amount of time my twins played with it (about 3 hours that evening).

More fun accessories to add to your slime:

  • Spoons, ladles, whisks
  • Clear Plastic Cups
  • Bowls
  • Muffin tin
  • I used a large underbed storage container with 2 small tubs inside the first time I introduced it

DIY slime

If you have a child interesting in learning the science behind slime – then I definitely recommend making a recipe from scratch at least once.  I’ve done this with my older son and he really enjoys it.

But for my toddler twins dollar store slime was perfect!  I had no prep in making it or trying to gather ingredients.  My twins keep me on my feet and I don’t have tons of extra time to be mixing up batches up slime, unfortunately.  But if you do have the time, it is a great activity to do with your child together!

Easy Slime Recipe

Your child will be learning so much while playing with slime!

Your child will be gaining skills such as:

  • Learning about capacity
  • Fine motor skills
  • Tactile and sensory play
  • Imaginative play
  • Independent play

Slime is such a fun thing to play with whether it is homemade or store-bought.  My boys loved this simple slime that was half store-bought and also saved me a bunch of time.

Will you try these easy slime add ins for kids the next time they play with slime?
