One Ingredient Moon Sand Recipe

Sharing is caring!

Are you looking for the simplest way to make moon sand, that’s also safe for your toddler!?  Then you should try this one ingredient moon sand recipe.

It’s so simple, even your child can set it up! This one ingredient edible moon sand recipe is crumbly, yet moldable.  It’s a little sticky and messy, but so much fun!

All of my kids had such a great time with this activity – not just the toddlers.

You probably already have this ingredient in your cabinet – which is perfect for when you want a spontaneous activity to do with your kids.

All you need to do is put some in a tub, and let your child play!  There is literally zero prep!  That’s my kind of activity.

Kinetic Sand

This moon sand activity was actually my 10-year-olds idea.

My 10-year-old was in the pantry one day looking for things to make his own dessert recipe with.  That’s when he came to me and said he had a great idea.  Why not use some brown sugar for moon sand?

He knew it molded together, yet was crumbly also.  We tried this and it was a hit with all the kids.

So all you need for this activity is some brown sugar and a small tub (or a cookie sheet would work).

This is great for a sensory play idea because there is no prep, and you probably already have it in your cabinet.  It’s also completely taste-safe (even edible), although I told my twins not to eat it (too much sugar!).  The clean up is pretty easy too since it’s in a tub (we did this outside because I knew some when end up on the ground).  If you put it in a tub with a lid you can save it for another day!

This kept all the kids busy from our 2-year-olds to our 14-year-old.

It’s so much fun digging in this moon sand with your hands and getting creative.

Cloud Dough

Although this is completely edible and safe to eat, I would not recommend eating it since it is plain sugar with molasses.  I told my twins it was “sand” and they didn’t even try to eat it.  Plus they were too busy playing with it to try to eat it.

It was so nice not having to worry about them putting it in their mouth though – since it is safe to consume.
