Halloween Sensory Bin

Sharing is caring!

Here’s a fun and easy Halloween sensory bin for toddlers, preschoolers, and even big kids!

This Halloween sensory bin is so simple to set up and can be used over and over again.

I’ve also included how to dye rice, but regular rice will work just as well for this sensory bin!

Halloween is one of my toddler’s favorite holidays so I had to make them a sensory bin this year.

If your toddler or preschooler loves Halloween then this is a perfect sensory bin for that!

Halloween Sensory Bin

I got every item for this sensory bin at the dollar store.  They start selling Halloween stuff in late August.

I set this sensory bin up in early September and plan to use it for the next couple of months with my toddlers. This bin only took a couple minutes to put together and has already gotten tons of use!

I’m sure I’ll have to keep adding some rice to it but I can just mix plain rice with the orange rice.

  • Any other Halloween accessories that are kid-friendly (spider rings, mini pumpkins, etc.)
  • I got all my Halloween accessories and the rice at the dollar store
  • Storage tub

How To Set Up the Sensory Bin:

Dye Rice (optional)

  • To dye the rice add in 1 teaspoon white vinegar, food coloring (I did about 3 drops per cup of rice) to 1 cup uncooked rice in a ziplock bag or container.
  • Shake until color is evenly distributed to the rice.  Lay the rice on a baking sheet until dry (I dried mine over night).

If you don’t want to use rice, then beans, lentils, or oats would work well.

Add in Halloween accessories and rice to a shallow storage tub.

Halloween Activities for Preschoolers

I did this sensory bin both indoors and outdoors with my toddler twins.

For indoors, I just laid a towel underneath to catch the rice that fell out, then poured it back in the tub when they were done playing.

Halloween Activities for Toddlers

My twins had so much fun with this Halloween sensory bin.

I let them play with it however they wanted.

First they picked up the items with the big skeleton hands, then they started digging in the rice with their hands.

They even started sorting the items with some help – then made some pretend soup.  This really is an open-ended play idea so this is a great activity to let your child use their imagination!

Will you try this Halloween Sensory Bin?
