Letter Recognition Activity With Cars

Sharing is caring!

Do you have a toddler or preschooler who loves anything that has to do with vehicles?  If so, you should try this Letter Recognition Activity With Cars!

My twins absolutely love cars, trucks, dump trucks, bulldozers, you name it!  That’s why I made this Letter Recognition Activity With Cars for them.  I wanted to combine something the enjoy with learning letters.

By creating an activity that is fun and engaging for my boys, it is so much easier and exciting for them to learn their letters!

I’m in no rush to teach them their letters right now since they are only 27 months old.  But figured it would be a good introduction to letters in a way that was meaningful and engaging.

This activity also combines art, so there’s lots for them to do/play with.

I made their name for the road because I want them to be able to eventually recognize their name (plus it has meaning for them).

Setting Up The Letter Recognition Activity With Cars:

  • Get a big roll of paper (like this) and roll it out so it’s large enough to write your child’s name

  • Write your child’s name in big bubble letters (I used a dark grey crayon)

  • Get cars, trucks, etc. for them to drive on the letter road

  • Make a little town with the crayons (I added in trees, stop lights, a  garage, and city buildings)

  • Put out some crayons if they want to color or trace the letters in their name (Here’s how to easily make my homemade DIY Toddler Crayons)Letter Recognition

My boys enjoyed driving their cars on their letter road and coloring the letters.  This is such a simple and basic introduction to letters, in a meaningful way that is fun and hands-on!  It combines art, early literacy, and playing cars!

You can do this activity with any letters that you want to work on.  You can also do this activity with numbers and sight words, and shapes, too!

By doing meaningful, engaging activities with your child, information is more likely to stick that way!  Find ways to incorporate learning into your toddler’s interest.
