Sensory Bin Oatmeal and Trucks

Sharing is caring!

Need an easy and fun sensory bin?  You might already have the stuff to make this Sensory Bin with Oatmeal and Trucks, too!

My boys love playing with all of their dump trucks and excavators.  Usually, they play with these in the mud and dirt. That’s why I made this sensory bin with oatmeal and trucks for them.

I decided to try oats with this since I had a ton of them in the cabinet.

The oats were perfect for this sensory bin with all of their trucks!  Plus this was such an easy, simple, and fun activity for them!

The oats were easy to scoop and didn’t leave a mess as dirt does!  They enjoyed scooping up the oats with their hands and using their trucks in this fun and easy sensory bin.

Toddler Activity

We played outside with this oat sensory bin since I figured a bunch of the oats would end up falling out or get dumped out.  They do vacuum or sweep up easy though if you do it inside.

I loved this sensory bin because it was literally set up in about a minute and with things I already had!  And the cleanup was easy since we played outside.

If you did this inside you could just place a towel/sheet underneath and everything that falls onto the towel just dump back into the tub when they’re done playing.  You could use it for another day!  That’s what I love about using tubs with lids.

What you will need to set up the Sensory Bin Oatmeal and Trucks:

  • A clear storage tub (or any tub will do, even an empty water table)
  • Oats – uncooked (I used one big tub of uncooked oats and one small tub of steel cut oats).  Just supervise closely to make sure your child doesn’t eat the raw oats, although they are taste safe (they can cause a tummy ache).
  • Accessories such as dump trucks, bulldozers, etc.

How to Set up the Sensory Tub:

  • Pour your oats into the tub.  I used one large container and one smaller container of old fashioned oats and steel cut oats.
  • Add in all the toys.
  • You could add in whatever you want such as spoons, muffin pans, spatulas, and cups and have a baking theme if you don’t want to use trucks or don’t have any.
  • Add in accessories geared towards what your toddler enjoys.  My boys love trucks so that’s what we added in and they were good for scooping and pouring the oats.

What Your Toddler is Learning:

  • Hand-Eye coordination
  • Independent play
  • Scooping and pouring skills (life skills)
  • Language development
  • Sensory play helps build nerve connections

This sensory tub really allowed my twins to play with their toys in a completely new way.  This kept my 27-month-old twins entertained for a long time (at least 30 minutes).

I hope your toddler will enjoy this fun and engaging sensory tub!  Make sure to supervise closely with this toddler activity and all activities on Twin Mom Refreshed.
