Toddler Breakfast Ideas – Quick and Healthy

Sharing is caring!

Do you have those mornings where you just need to get out of the door?  I sure do!  Here are 11 Toddler Breakfast Ideas that my twins eat quite often when we are in a hurry.  Which are most days for us.

These toddler breakfast ideas are quick, healthy, and super easy to make.  My kind of food! Especially when there is no time to cook.

While I do love cooking breakfast and making something fresh, realistically there is not a lot of time and energy to do that every morning.  These ideas don’t require you to turn the stove on.

Do you have busy mornings?  Or just no energy to cook in the morning?  Then you should read this list of toddler breakfast ideas to see if these ideas would work for your family!

Not only are these breakfast ideas quick and healthy – they’re also approved by my twin toddlers.  And will provide your kiddo with lots of energy and nutrition.

My two-year-old toddlers can be quite picky some mornings and it seems like sometimes all they want is milk.

Usually, I will give them a choice, “Do you want oatmeal or yogurt?”  By giving your toddler a choice it gets them involved and gives them some of the control – therefor, they are more likely to eat their breakfast.  And you are still offering two things you would feed them any way that you have on hand.

My Top List of Toddler Breakfast Ideas that are Quick and Healthy.  I hope this list gives you inspiration for your meals!

Hard-Boiled Egg (sliced up)

    • I will make these ahead of time and just have them in the fridge to grab.  These are a great snack food so you could make a bunch of them.
    • Sometimes I offer fruit with this, depending on how hungry they are.

Instant Oatmeal

    • I buy plain instant oatmeal and add pure maple syrup or honey (make sure they are over 1 if giving honey- I waited until my twins were almost 2 to give honey).
    • I add in butter (or coconut oil) and sometimes a little milk.  You could add whatever toppings your toddler prefers (berries, yogurt, chopped dates, nut butters, etc.).

Make a breakfast casserole and cook the night before

    •  Make something your toddler likes!  We like french toast casseroles (super easy and fast to make) and egg/ham/cheese ones.
    • If it’s already precooked it’s fast to heat up.  You can cook it the night before.  This should last more than one morning, depending on the size of your family.
    • We also pre-make these mini muffin tin Dutch babies for a quick breakfast the next day.

Baby Oatmeal and Applesauce Mixed Together

    • This is super easy and quick.  My twins ate this a lot when they were a little bit younger but still eat it once and while.
    • Use baby oatmeal and add in applesauce (or another puree) and mix.  Add in enough applesauce to get the consistency you want.

Yogurt and Berries (could add granola or cereal)

    • Super simple and no-prep.  We use plain whole milk yogurt and add in berries (blueberries, raspberries, and sliced strawberries are our favourites).
    • Sometimes I add in ground flax seeds to boost the nutritional value (I do just a pinch).

Cereal With Blueberries or Bananas (or any fruit your toddler likes)

    • Add in chopped up bananas or blueberries to a bowl of cereal with no added sugar. Chopped strawberries and bananas are also good with plain toasted O’s.
    • I prefer organic cereal with no added sugar and minimal ingredients (something similar to Cheerios).

Toddler Popsicle Made From Smoothie

    • This is good when it’s hot out.  I make my smoothies with fruit, yogurt, avocado or spinach, ground flax seeds, and oatmeal for their breakfast popsicles.
    • You will need to make this at least the day before so it can freeze.  We love this popsicle tray.  I’ve had it since they were 6 months old and still use it!

Smoothie

    • For breakfast smoothies, I like to add yogurt, fruit (usually frozen pre-chopped for added convenience), avocado or spinach, and a pinch of ground flax seeds.  Here’s a quick and easy avocado and mango smoothie for toddlers.
    • Make a little extra smoothie and freeze it into a popsicle tray for breakfast popsicles.
    • I love this blender for all of my smoothies.  I’ve had it for over 5 years and it’s so easy to use and easy cleanup.  You can even add raw carrots and other raw veggies (and nuts, too) and it blends them up smoothly.  It helps make smoothies so nutritious.

Homemade Muffin

    • Previously made from another day- muffins also freeze well.
    • I like to make muffins with hidden veggies and oats for breakfast muffins.  My toddlers love these pumpkin and banana muffins with no refined sugar.

Toast With Toppings

    • Spread avocado, cream cheese, nut butters or sunflower butter, smashed fruit or jam onto toast

Hot Dog (Organic Grass-Fed, no nitrates or nitrites added)- could also do sausage

    • I serve this with pre-cooked veggies or fruit and toast- yes, we eat this odd breakfast sometimes – especially my 9-year-old.  It’s not a typical breakfast, but hot dogs have no sugar in them and lots of protein.  They are also quick to heat up and filling.  We don’t eat this regularly for a breakfast but it is something different that fills them up!
    • Make sure to slice up hot dogs VERY small any time your child eats a hot dog.  They are one of the top, if not the number one, choking hazards in kids.  I slice mine up four times lengthwise, then slice it lots the other way.

Whole Wheat Frozen Waffle (or Pancakes) in the Toaster

    • Top with nut butter (or sunflower butter) and some fruit for a balanced meal
    • Or make it into a quick waffle sandwich so it’s easy to hold.  Peanut butter and banana is a quick and easy combo for the morning.  Here’s more waffle sandwich ideas for toddlers and kids.
