Donut Apples

Sharing is caring!

Donut apples are a fun spin on donuts and a healthy alternative!

While these donut apples aren’t exactly donuts, they are just as fun in my opinion.

Toddlers and kids love these donuts, and it’s a fun and healthy food activity to make with them!

Serve these donut apples for a snack or set up a breakfast bar in the morning where they can make their own!

The toppings are endless, and you can get creative as you want with these apple donuts.

The ingredients are simple and you don’t have to bake these!

To make these apple donuts, first, you need to core an apple.  I use an apple corer like this one (affiliate link).

Core how many ever apples you want to use.  I used two medium-sized apples for 4 toddlers and that was enough.

Next, get out all your spreadable toppings.

I helped my toddlers spread the yogurt, peanut butter, and Nutella on the apples.  Spread the nut and seed butter thin for toddlers and kids.

Ideas for spreads for the donut apples

  • Peanut butter or another kind of nut or seed butter (almond, cashew, sunflower butter, cookie butter, etc.)
  • Yogurt (plain or any flavor)
  • Nutella
  • Frosting (I haven’t tried these with frosting but I’m sure it would be good! It would be more for a dessert)

Next, sprinkle on toppings.  I let my toddlers sprinkle on their own toppings on the apple fruit donus.

Ideas for toppings for donut apples

  • Sprinkles (fun for kids!)
  • Cereal (we used Fruity Pebbles)
  • Ground nuts
  • Coconut flakes
  • Mini chocolate chips
  • Raisins
  • Hemp hearts
  • Ground flaxseed
  • Chia Seeds

I even eat these for a snack.

The kids’ favorite donuts are the Nutella and yogurt sprinkled with Fruity Pebbles.  These are fun for kids to make, and they are more likely to try them if they help make it.

If you have any leftover donut apples, store in the fridge for 1-2 days.

These would be fun to serve at a party or for a special breakfast or snack.

Have you made donut apples before with your kid or toddler?
